Foreign Influence?

Dec. 3, 2019

An investigative project resulting in a longform story with a companion database.

A collaboration with three fellow journalists, this project explores the "Truth in Testimony" rule in the U.S. House of Representatives which requires those who testify before the House to disclose any foreign funding related to the hearing at which they testify. The final product is a 4000+ word story on the implementation and effectiveness of the rule, as well as a database of the testimonies spanning 2011 through 2018 and the corresponding disclosure forms from 2015 (when the new rule about foreign funding was enacted) through 2018.

Thanks so much to my co-authors Flaviana Sandoval, Diego Marcano and Jahnavi Bhatia, our professor and advisor Brooke Williams, and all the folks at the Investigative Reporting Workshop that helped make this happen!
